Sometimes they surprise you.
For a trans woman, social transition can be exhausting.
You don’t get to choose who you tell, when you tell, how you tell.
When you finally decide to present to the world in your own gender, you’re coming out to everyone — all the time.
It’s not coming out once, to family and friends. It’s coming out a thousand times — to the drycleaner, the postal worker, the bank teller, the drive-through lady at Wendy’s. And on and on.
Someday I’ll be done with all the coming-outs.
I hope.
That said, I have to share two moments from last October.
